Nádia is a PhD fellow in Chemistry, currently working on the first draft of her fantasy/romance novel Dragon’s Crater.

She grew up immersed in fantasy stories and books, a love she inherited from her mother.

When she’s not reading or writing, Nádia enjoys sports, discovering new restaurants, and traveling.

Meet Nádia Santos:

What's your favorite genre?

I’m primarily drawn to fantasy—especially epic worlds filled with dragons, elves, and magical realms—but I also have a deep love for post-apocalyptic and dystopian stories. The contrasts between the end of civilization and the potential for hope really intrigue me. But no matter the genre, I always crave a romance subplot that adds an emotional layer to the adventure.

What's one piece of advice you wish you'd known when you first started writing?

How writing sprints can help me power through my first draft, quiet my impostor syndrome, and stop overthinking everything.

Was there anything else you wanted to be, besides a writer, when you were a kid?

Yes! I wanted to become a scientist, and I’m actively making it a reality! I remember watching Jurassic Park for the first time, and that was the moment I knew I wanted to pursue science. Even with all the events of the movie, I'd still definitely work there lol (does that make me a bad person? xD).

What would you tell your younger self not to care about?

I would tell her that it’s okay if some people don’t like her or her work—that her worth isn’t defined by others’ opinions. Just like an old car may not be valuable to everyone, but it holds great worth for a collector.

Do you swear? If so, what's your favorite curse word?

I do! People are usually surprised when I tell them this because I come across as sweet and innocent, but I curse a lot! Especially being a Portuguese woman from the north! My favorite has to be the Portuguese version of 'fuck'—'Foda-se!' It’s just so satisfying to say, haha!
