Beta Reading

Developmental Editing Phone Calls

• $75.00 for a 45-minute call.

  • Talking through ideas.

  • Sharing genre knowledge.

  • Sending over a one-page sheet of notes.

Formatting

Take a fully developed manuscript and format it with online platforms, like Atticus, to get ready for print and digital copies of a client’s book. ​

Outline Development

• For non-fiction: 

  • If research is required, there will be an hourly fee of $35.00. Depending on the length of the novel, no more than three to four hours is usually required.

  • $50.00 for a 1600-word outline with resources already available from the author/client.

• For Fiction:

  • $125.00 for character, setting, and plot development (outline will be roughly 1600 words).

    • An example of a 50,00-word outline (plot development) will include roughly thirty Chapters.

    • An example of setting and character development will depend on how many primary and secondary characters are asked for. Generally, there are one to two main characters, a handful of other “primary” characters, and a small number of secondary characters.

  • $50.00 for character and setting development.

  • $75.00 for plot development (only)

• Additional words and ideas will result in another development fee to be named after a one-time phone call (30 minutes, no charge).

Additional Phone Calls

 

There will always be opportunities for more calls. Some people work best at verbalizing their ideas, and it’s a great way to move the conversation and thoughts forward.

• Phone calls will be factored into the proposal/contract ahead of time. If there are any other phone calls the client/collaborator would like, there will be an additional fee of $50.00 for one hour, which will include notes/recordings of our discussion for the client and collaborator.

Template

Kara has a host of templates already created for clients to use such as setting & character development, outline/plot development, etc. She can give these to clients for $45.00 each.
