Heather has always been an obsessive reader and is prone to staying up all night to binge books.

She’s a skeptic, a hopeless romantic, a jaded book addict, and in love with love.

Heather focuses on male/male romances but has unpublished works in other genres.

Her books contain spicy scenes with a bit of kink, lots of heart, and angst to make the happily ever after even sweeter. Heather falls madly in love with her leading men and hopes you will too.

She creates stories to take readers on a journey of broken men finding and accepting love. She believes everyone deserves a happy ending, especially people who have been hurt or denied love. Love is the best human experience.

Heather read her first romance, which she snuck off her mother’s bookshelf as a pre-teen. Her favorite books break her heart, and then put it back together. She wants to do the same for her readersso her goal is to write books that unbreak your heart.

Meet Heather Leighson

What’s your favorite genre?

I write and read mainly MM romance. I started reading it due to a title mix-up but fell in love and never looked back. There is an extra layer of emotions and plot when the love story doesn’t fit in the box our society dictates.

What is a goal you’re still waiting to start?

I would love to open a direct sales shop from my website and offer books directly to my readers. My goal is to have it up and running by the end of 2025.

What helpful tips would you give a fellow writer having difficulty plotting, developing, etc.?

Using a skeleton outline and giving myself space to leave blank chapters has changed how I write. I tried every aid available, and nothing clicked until I gave myself permission to block out a rough outline.

What would you tell your younger self not to care about?

To enjoy the time with my kids and not worry about whether their house is clean when they want to have friends over.

What have you learned and grown from over the last year? Work-life balance and trying to create realistic goals. It’s tricky to meet my goals, have the inevitable disaster, and have a life, LOL.

If your core main characters could say one thing about you, what do you think (or hope) they would say?

I hope they will say I’m doing an excellent job of creating a world that real-life members of the LBGTQ+ community would want to live in. It’s important to me to uplift the voices of the people I’m writing about and better the world one romance book at a time.

Was there ever a name you wanted to use for a character that didn’t fit their personality, so you had to change it

I love names and do a lot of research. I didn’t like the name Trevor but ended up keeping it after finding out it means homestead since this was a theme of the book and what Patrik had been missing for his entire life—a home.
