Bio: Kara Reynolds is a watercolorist and illustrator.
She lives in Florida with her husband and some cats.
She has been writing stories her whole literate life, some in her head, some on paper, some on floppy discs (it was the 90s), and some on a MacBook.
Meet Kara Reynolds:
If your core main characters could say one thing about you, what do you think (or hope) they would say?
In all honesty, they would say, "She won't listen to me."
Because I have a hundred stories in my head that I have not let myself write for over a decade. I call it the doctor's waiting room. They are all sitting there, tapping their feet. Edie (FMC of Priestess) was the loudest.
If you could live in any fictional town, city, or world, what would it be?
I will be narcissistic and say Tintar, the country that is the main setting in the Priestess world. I do not believe in utopias.
Tintar is a country of might, a shaking fist that reverts to conflict more quickly than it should. But it is coastal, and I love the ocean. And their gods are chill and half of them are female, so there's less patriarchal vibes happening (it's still not perfect).
Do you have any words/tropes you won’t write in your genre?
I will never use the word, 'bitch.' I don't know why, I just won't. I use it myself! I think I like the idea of a world that exists where even if women are subjected to your standard patriarchal bs, they don't have to hear that word in reference to themselves.
What is a goal you’re still waiting to start?
I am an artist by trade and currently under contract to do a coloring book for a publisher and that's taking up a lot of time, BUT I have been loving doing character art, developing a style that's somewhere between neo-traditional tattooing and art nouveau. I will be (hopefully) launching that soon on my website.
Was there anything else you wanted to be, besides a writer, when you were a kid?
An artist!
