M.K. Deoradhán (djō-rǒn) writes fantasy, romantasy, and a dash of historical!

You can always find romance, kick-ass women, and swoon-worthy men in her books.

Although she’s lived all over the U.S., she now resides on the west coast with her husband and two dogs.

Do you have any inspirational quotes you live by?

Nothing comes from nothing. The first time I heard it was in The Sound of Music, when Maria and the Captain are singing to each other, and for some reason, it stuck with me.

I even used it in Trial of Bronze and Blood, though in Latin and with a slightly different meaning.

What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d known when you first started writing? Read, write, repeat. Darcy had it right when he said extensive reading improves the mind. That can only make your writing better. Especially read outside your genre so that you don’t get stuck in the same tropes and writing style.

What is one kind of character that every book you enjoy has in it? Definitely a comic relief. I need the back-and-forth casual humor that breaks into the tension of whatever is happening.

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? The Office & Parks and Rec are always my go-to to just have on in the background.

What is something that you’ve learned and grown from over the last year? Find your people and hold on to them tight—they’ll help you succeed. I started 2024 in an awful situation with a writer group while still querying a different book for almost 2 years. It was so bad I never thought I’d write anything again. Now, I have three amazing critique partners, a book deal, and a book coming out in just a few months!

What is the loftiest goal you’d like to reach as a writer? Being included in a book box! I’m not sure this series will make that happen, but as long as I keep writing, I know I’ll get there.
