After years working in the healthcare industry, Morgan decided to change careers to help raise her kids and focus on a lifelong dream.
She likes writing characters who find their strength, learn family isn't only blood deep, and create worlds to escape into.
When she isn't writing she is enjoying time with family, reading, sewing, or enjoying nature.
She hopes to inspire her own kids to follow their dreams one day and that nothing is impossible if you dedicate enough time and effort into it.
Meet Author Morgan G:
If you could be friends with one character in your debut novel, who would it be? Why?
My FMC Rose. Her journey through the trilogy is full of necessary struggles and hardships.
She's really a special character for me, and not just because this is the first full novel I've completed.
Rose is loyal and learning to believe in herself, and honestly, I want to be friends with her to let her know she can do it.
She can fight for what she knows is right, and I could give her a big hug along the way.
What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d known when you first started writing?
That it's going to be hard, but it's so worth the dedication and time. There was a lot about self-publishing I didn't know back then, or that I'm still figuring out now, and there will be for a while. The most important thing is to get a draft down, because ultimately that's the start of the journey.
You can learn everything else along the way.
What’s your favorite board game? Cards? Group activity?
Right now, hands down, I love playing Dungeons and Dragons. Being a stay-at-home mom and writer is sometimes isolating, so having a group activity helps bring me back out of my shell. I'm newer and still learning, but being a DM helps spark my creativity and gives me another form of community and socializing opportunity.
It's just another form of immersive storytelling, and I love never knowing what is going to happen next.
What are some helpful tips you would give a fellow writer who’s having a hard time plotting, developing, etc.?
Start with what you love, whether that's character inspiration, development, worldbuilding, etc., and jot that down. Then, find someone to talk to. I don't know how many problems and plot holes I've solved by talking to someone else, whether that be my husband or my writing friends I've made through bookstagram.
There's just something about saying it out loud that helps me, and getting someone else's opinion can show you a new way of looking at whatever is holding you up. I've made some lasting friendships through instagram and having so many friendly authors and readers has really helped me in times of need.
Never be afraid to ask for advice or to go through multiple drafts before you find your path in writing.
What would you tell your younger self not to care about?
To not care so much about seeking answers at the cost of emotional pain, that sometimes there are just not good people out there, and to let them go. I wish I could go back and tell my younger self that she will find and surround herself with those who matter most and to give herself more grace.
What is your loftiest goal you’d like to reach as a writer?
To touch someone emotionally. I always think back to those books that left an emotional mark on me, that made me think about the ways I live my life, or look deeper into myself. When I started pursuing this dream, I told my husband, if I can make one person feel seen I've done my job. This was the book that I needed to read at one point in my life and I hope it shows others that strength comes in many forms. We all can have hope. I'm not saying I don't hope to make a career of this passion, but I stay true to this original goal I set for myself.
Was there ever a name you wanted to use for a character but it didn’t fit their personality so you had to change it?
It wasn't a personality that made me switch a name, but it was too close to another character's name. I have a character in book two who was named Rook, but another character that I named Roark. Eventually, I realized that it may make things confusing, so I decided to change it up. I guess I liked "R" names when writing the series.
