Do you have any inspirational quotes you live by?

“You do not yield.” Nothing has ever stuck with me as soundly as this quote from the Maasverse has. As a runner, I write this on me for every race or long run to remind me not to give up.

What was the first piece you ever wrote?

I remember when I was around 11 or 12 I wrote a story called The Jewel of Life. Pirates of the Caribbean had recently premiered, so I was obviously super into pirates. There was some action-packed scavenging for sure. I didn’t write anything else until my debut, If Only In My Dreams. I was in the depths of postpartum, and writing that story gave me purpose. It was truly so healing!

What is a goal you’re still waiting to start?

I really want to get into editing. I do a lot of alpha and beta reading, love providing feedback, and want to champion as many indie authors as I can. Slowly taking baby steps towards pursuing that goal!

What are some helpful tips you would give a fellow writer who’s having a hard time plotting, developing, etc.?

My writing method is a bit chaotic. I don’t plot; honestly, I just go with the flow. My biggest piece of advice is not to overthink anything in your first draft. Focus on what feels good. Get your dreams and ideas out—you can always sculpt them later.

What would you tell your younger self not to care about?

The opinions of others! Embrace your weirdness. We have only one life.

Do you swear? If so, what’s your favorite curse word? If not, what’s your go-to exclamation when you’re mad/happy?

I make an effort not to curse around the littles. My husband and I have adopted some phrases in place of swear words. We say “cheese its” instead of “jesus”, and “holy guacamole” instead of “holy shit”. It’s funny and silly, and so uniquely us.

If your core main characters could say one thing about you, what do you think (or hope) they would say?

You are stronger than you think.

✨✨✨
